Meet My Facebook Twins

Janet Camilleri · 17/05/2016 ·

They say all of us have a twin somewhere in the world.

twins!

Back when I was at high school, the headmistress kept mixing me up with another girl called Lisa.

And people often used to remark on how much I looked like Meg Ryan. Though that’s changed, mostly because I’ve gained weight she’s had plastic surgery.

My Facebook Twins

Just lately however, thanks to Facebook, I’ve discovered I have not one, but TWO twins. Which would be triplets. But twins sounds cooler.

Whenever I upload a selfie, Facebook has been helpfully offering to tag the people in the photo. However, although it’s a picture of me, Facebook insists that it is actually Beck Berger.

It’s true, Bec and I have a fair bit in common. We both have children that are pretty much grown now, we both have a blog (hers is Crafty PJ Mum), and we both like cats.

This is Beck:

Beck 4

And this is me:

Do we look alike

I’m not sure why Facebook thinks we look alike, maybe it’s the nose and the fact that we are both blonde bombshells 😉 .

It’s not the first time it’s happened though.

Last year, Facebook thought our own Jess Newman from Essentially Jess (and the IBOT hostess with the mostess), was my twin.

Again, I can see a few similarities … such as the pose, and the glasses.

This is Jess:

And this is me:

We are both besotted with our husbands (if you check out Jess’s Facebook timeline, you will see there are quite a few pics of her and Boatman looking all loved up – just like me and my hubster!); and we have both written a book – “Diary of a SAHM” (Jess), and “Clues to your Calling” (me).

Actually, come to think of it, I guess it’s not a bad thing that Facebook thinks we’re twins – Jess is about fifteen years younger than me, after all 😉 .

Does Facebook ever try to tag somebody else in your selfies, like it does with me?!

I’ve always wanted a twin sister but alas even Facebook hasn’t provided me with one!

Ingrid, it seems that FB will only tag them if you are already friends with them 😉

I saw a photo of me and was really confused about being with a bunch of people I’d never met, then realised it wasn’t me at all. Everyone there had thought we were twins. But when we met face to face, we looked nothing alike. It was very strange.

That’s funny! I wonder what it would be like if I met Beck in person? (I’ve already met Jess. We could be sisters, but maybe not twins!)

I never noticed before, but Beck and yourself are alike! I didn’t realise until you mentioned it on Facebook. Unique way of finding your doppleganger! It has never happened to me, I guess you have to know them in real life to be tagged too.

You’re right Alicia, I think you have to be FB friends first 🙂

I saw mine years ago on a holiday in Qld. It was rather disappointing really, not at all what I thought I really looked like. Poor girl probably thought the same thing 🙂

LOL that’s funny. Or maybe it’s because you are the better looking twin 😉

Funny – I had no idea that FB would suggest tags – I don’t post many pics of myself but will have to give it a go. When we adopted our Little Yang my friend had face recognition on her IMac and it asked if he was our daughter – she had photos of about 10 different Chinese adopted children in her files (her daughter was adopted at the same time as our Miss YIn) but it matched our kids. I think that’s kind of special since they ended up being siblings (with no biological relationship of course).

That’s lovely Kathy – like it was meant to be!

You do look alike! I’m quite jealous as well, I’d love a FB twin!!

I know – how lucky am I – not one but TWO!

Well I couldn’t think of a better person to be my twin. Thanks Face Book : )

That is brilliant! Yes, my cousin is my twin on facebook! Always trying to tag her/me in photos. The photo of you and Jess is great. Sisters perhaps?! 🙂 IBOT

I’m glad it’s not just me that’s seen these weird random taggings! I’ve met Jess in person so yes, definitely sisters rather than twins 🙂

Hehe, that’s awesome! That’s never happened to me but I don’t really post photos of myself much so that’s probably why! Maybe I need to take more of me! #TeamIBOT

It looks like you have to be “friends” with your FB twin too. I cheat, I use FB to upload pics (set to private) to my computer!

Wow you and Beck actually do look very similar! Jess not so much but the pose – yes! I don’t think I have a FB twin but I’d be interested to see who it is if I do!! 🙂

      17/05/2016 at 5:09 pm

Min I’m surprised FB doesn’t think you and I are twins! 😉

How funny that facebook wants to tag other people in your photos. Shouldn’t their wham bam algorithm technology know its you?! I love the idea of having a twin though, I think that’d be pretty cool.

I thought it was pretty good once when Facebook thought I was my gorgeous niece Shona! Not that we look all that alike!

    • Janet Camilleri says

      26/05/2016 at 10:21 am

Yes, I’m quite chuffed it thinks Jess and I look alike as she is considerably younger!

It’s not happened to me here but with iPhoto I do get some face recognition with my family but that makes sense. This is a sweet post! Denyse

      26/05/2016 at 10:22 am

Thanks Denyse, it really freaked me out at first!

You and Beck are quite alike!
I think it’s quite a compliment that they think we are alike. I would happily say you’re my sister.

    • Janet Camilleri says

      26/05/2016 at 10:22 am

Naww thanks Jess. From memory I think you actually *do* have a sister around my age 😉

It’s really funny how Facebook does that. I was tagged in a photo recently, but it wasn’t me and I had no idea who the people were. The woman was Asian, but did have the dark shoulder length hair that I used to have. Bizarre. You and Beck really do look similar.

    • Janet Camilleri says

      26/05/2016 at 10:22 am

I hate how FB always wants to tag people in photos – and not just the wrong people in my selfies!

Liz it’s always good to have you here! I look forward to hearing more about your book too!
