If you have been playing along at home, you will know that as part of my #festivalof50, I was keen to pose for some glamour photos.
And yes, I did wonder: Am I too old for glamour photos?
But my photographer friend assured me I’m not, and that a boudoir photo shoot would actually be a great way to remember my 50 year old self in years to come – as well as get some very special photos for the hubster to treasure!
Have You Ever Had Glamour Photos?
I must confess, I posed for some glamour photos to commemorate my 30th birthday – yes 20 years ago now! My daughter was only a few weeks old, and was still breast fed, so my sister came along to help out at the photo shoot.
To be honest, I didn’t really like the resulting images that much. They just didn’t look like “me”.
So I was hemming and hawwing about doing it all again for my 50th, because let’s face it, there are a lot more lumps and bumps, wrinkles and crinkles, than there were when I was 30!
Then the good people at The Apparel Effect sent me some samples of their plus-size lingerie – and it kinda felt like the planets had aligned.
Now Middle Aged Mama has a strict family-friendly policy, so while I would *love* to be able to share some of the resulting photos with you – some things are best kept private 😉 .
But I can tell you this: the hubster absolutely loves the pics, and the lingerie; but most of all the woman in them!
Here’s a teaser to show you how they turned out …When it comes to posing and pouting for the camera, I’m rubbish at “sexy” – but I *can* do “cute” – even at age 50!
Do you think there is such a thing as being too old for glamour photos?
If you are interested in lovely plus-sized lingerie, The Apparel Effect is offering a massive 20% off all orders – this deal is *exclusive* to Middle Aged Mama readers only. Simply enter the code “MAMASWITHSTYLE” at the checkout – valid until 1 July 2017.

Awww…. I want to get some professional photos done this year that I can use for blogging and for my profile pics etc… Mine are usually selfies and – though I’m not touting for work or anything – I think it’s kinda obvious sometimes.
It’s on my ‘5 before 50’ list so I have until December. I asked Melissa (SugerCoatIt) about her recent pics as I really love them so might even think about a trip to Gympie to use her photographer when I can save the money. And I like the idea of someone doing my hair and makeup and it staying on long enough for the photos!)
I hated photos until my mate Vic started doing professional photos for me about 10 years ago (I was often her guinea pig), and now of course I do a million selfies, so I am much more comfortable in front of the camera.
Never too old for glamour photo’s! I have never had any done though! It’s something I might consider in the near future (before I get too much older)! Love the one of you when you were 30 and I’m sure the ones of you at 50 are great too. #TeamLovinLife
I think it’s about time you got in front of the camera Min, instead of being behind it!!!
Hey girls, I did Janet’s photo shoot as we go way back in the friends department. It was fun. You can find me at [email protected] or check out my website and Facebook Pages; Purdie Photography. Shoots cost less than you think and none of us are getting any younger, so mose well make the most of what you have right now. I promise you a fun time.
Definitely recommend Victoria I don’t trust anybody else with my professional pics!!!
I think it’s great that you got these – you’re never too old 🙂 You look beautiful. Wish you could have posted some more pics!
PS. Big Ted looks chuffed!
LOL doesn’t he!!! 😉 And you’re just a bit biased PDB x
I don’t think there’s such a thing as being too old. I’m keen to get some pro shots done, but probably more outside pics rather than glamour shots. I keep putting it off and putting it off. Maybe it’s the thought of doing my hair? Who knows. Yours, however, look like you had fun as well as looking good – well, from the sneaky G rated sample anyways 😉
Yes, G rated, that’s a good way to describe it! To be honest I wouldn’t have minded putting up a couple of the tamer shots, but hubster didn’t want to share me and I wanted to respect his wishes (even if I didn’t agree)!
I like that you are making the most of this year. Good for you. Photos are special and you will never be ‘this young again’ is one way I look at it. Many moons ago I lost a lot of weight (went back on, now its gone again) and I decided to do a photo shoot. It was for me to celebrate me and I am glad I did it. I didn’t do boudoir ones but I did celebrate a ‘thinner’ me with a board shorts and kind of bikini top. Have no idea where those pics are now but I remain pleased that I did them.
Must be time you got some more done Denyse! I reckon you’d look fab in a glamour shoot!
I’m not sure about Glamour Photos – I would want to hang it on the family room wall or put on my social media if I looked fantastic in a photo (for a change) Not sure how that would go in a bra and knickers! What I’d love is some professional photos (like Deb mentioned) where I look “put together” and someone could give me some guidance on how to smile without looking like a gargoyle! Maybe one day……I actually applied for an online deal once but you weren’t allowed to use the photos – only they could print them for you – kind of defeated the purpose really.
You look great in the photos I’ve seen – like somebody I would like to know, which having read your blog, I know is an accurate portrayal. I’m going to get the pics printed up in a book for hubster’s birthday 🙂 .
Never too old for glamour photos! Never too old to finally do things you’ve always wanted to do! I’m up on stage doing burlesque! LOVE IT!
I love that you are doing Burlesque – my Miss 20 would be very admiring too, her favourite movie is Burlesque!
So much fun!
I remember getting cousin getting hers done at the ripe ol’ age of 21. She looked like she’d just walked off the set of Dallas. I was so jealous!! She looked like a movie star for sure.
I got mine done at the age of 25. I just looked like a made-up version of myself. I was disappointed I didn’t look like I was in Dallas too. Now that I look back, I’m kind of thankful for the more low key, more “me” photos.
I can’t wait to see your glamour photos 🙂
Reckon it must be time you swapped places with the model daughter and got some done Leanne!
Never too old for glamour – or photos! I loved your cute teaser, and yes perhaps it’s best staying away from the sexy at our age or we might get a few unwanted internet proposals! Lol!
Ugh I already get dodgy messages from mostly Arabic men on Instagram … delete DELETE DELETE!
Never too old Janet!!! I had one done when I turned 40 (nearly 20 years ago). It was so much fun and I certainly looked more glamorous than my normal self. Love the lingerie and also the photo I’m sure you will be pleased with the result and glad that you did it. A lovely memory.
Must be just about time you did it again Sue!
I had mine done in my late 20s I think, it was fun but I got massively sucked into an expensive photo package that I absolutely could not afford at the time! I’d do it again but I think I’d prefer to get some nice family shots done professionally.
Same about the one I got when I was 30, especially considering I wasn’t that thrilled with them!
You certainly can do cute! You’re adorable Janet 🙂
LOL thanks Pinky!
I think everyone has already said this but never too old. Brave doing it in lingerie though and I agree you don’t want to share publicly; I got the most revolting comment on our Facebook page a few weeks ago.
Sadly there are some real sickos out there. I posted a pic of my feet on IG once after a pedicure and got some foot fetishist contact me. WTF.
