Meet the Middle Aged Family

the millennials and me

I formally introduced you to the Middle Aged Family back in February 2015 … but an awful lot has changed since then.

The Middle Aged Family goes out for dinner

So I thought it was appropriate that I re-visit that post, and provide you with a bit of an update.

The Middle Aged Papa (aka the Hubster)

On the 11th of December it will be 30 years since our very first date – which you can read about in An Ice Cream Changed My Life.

In some ways, it feels like yesterday – time has flown! How can three decades have passed? But at the same time, I can barely a remember a time when he wasn’t in my life.

If I could sum up the hubster in only a few words, it would be these: he is a true gentleman. I am constantly amazed that my young self was smart enough to link her life with his, 30 years ago.

He is very intelligent, a real handyman (check out our laundry renovation, and walk in wardrobe makeover). On the surface we have little in common – I’m a real girly girl, and he likes motor sports, fishing, tools and blokey stuff – although he *is* a crazy cat man, and he does love a good cup of tea and a chat!

I could rave on and on, but instead you might like to check out this post: 10 things I love about him.

The Middle Aged Son (Mr 23)

Mr 23 has matured a lot over the last three years.

He realised that working in a fast food restaurant was not where he wanted to be for the rest of his life, so he returned to uni and is now 2/3 of the way through a Bachelor of Commerce, with the intention of becoming a financial planner. It has been a delight to see him find his direction in life and pursue it with passion! This summer he is doing some work with a local financial planning firm in preparation for life after graduation (which will be this time next year).

He loves collecting screen-used movie costumes and props, particularly from movie series like Underworld, Resident Evil, and Harry Potter (which I wrote about in “Interview with a Vampire Collector“).

His pride and joy is his black Nissan 350Z, and he has recently discovered the local golf driving range. He too is a crazy cat man and adopted Seth earlier this year … the two of them can often be spotted practising a few golf swings (Mr 23) and chasing the golf ball (Seth). He loves a good G&T, and his favourite food is sushi.

The Middle Aged Son & Daughter

The Middle Aged Daughter (Miss Almost 21)

I thought my heart was broken when our daughter moved out not longer after her 18th birthday – she always did have an independent streak a mile wide! But nearly three years later, we are still as close as ever, even if she does live further away. (If you’re coming to the Pop Up Blog Zone tomorrow, you’ll even get to meet her in person!).

Like her mama, she is a fan of op shopping, and aqua (check out their couch!), loves kitties, and also social media.

Middle Aged Mama and grandkitty Delilah

She is a great supporter of my blog too: always stopping by to read, commenting, taking photos, inspiring posts (like this date ball recipe), and even wrote a blog post when I was away on holidays.

Middle Aged Mama and Daughter

About a year ago she started working as a legal secretary; prior to that she was managing a local cafe. She and her man (he’s the tall one with glasses in the pic at top) live in an apartment near the city, which means she can leave home and be at her desk in less than fifteen minutes in the morning! She is loving the city lifestyle (I remember being like that too at her age, though my flat was nowhere near as nice).

In the last three years, she has been on an overseas adventure, and had her earlobes repaired after wearing stretchers.

And of course, you’ve already met the always cute, but sometimes naughty Miss FleurSophie de la Snuggles and the toys
